Home to historic royal carriages and one of the finest working stables in existence.

The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace is responsible for all the road travel arrangements for The Queen and members of the Royal Family.

Discover this living part of Britain's heritage, open from February to November each year.

Royal Mews closures

The Royal Mews is part of a working royal palace so sometimes closures can happen at short notice.

The Mews will be completely closed on:

  • 26 May 2018
  • 2 June 2018
  • 6 June 2018
  • 9 June 2018
  • Sundays 4 – 30 November 2018
  • 1 December 2018 – 31 January 2019

Practical information

  • You can visit the Royal Mews at your leisure using the complimentary multimedia tour, which lasts approximately 45 minutes.
  • When you arrive, you will pass through an airport-style security check. Read more about security & luggage.
  • You can take photographs in the Royal Mews. Read about photography, filming & mobile phones.
  • Your ticket includes a multimedia guide available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Mandarin. We also have a guide for families, an audio descriptive tour for blind or partially-sighted visitors and a video tour for D/deaf and hard of hearing visitors. 
  • Eating and drinking aren't allowed inside the Royal Mews.
  • Toilets and baby-care facilities are located at the end of the visit.
  • Pushchairs can be taken into the Mews. Read more about visiting with children.

We offer a groups discount for bookings of 15 people or more.

Group bookings

You don't have to pre-book your group visit. Buy your tickets from the Admission desk on the day.

Coach parking

We can advise on the nearest coach set down and pick up points. Unfortunately there is no coach parking near the Royal Mews.

Guiding

London Blue Badge Guides are allowed to guide at two points in the Main Quadrangle. Visitors can also enjoy a free multimedia tour.

Access and mobility

The Royal Mews is fully accessible. Most of the site is outside, with some cover. Concessionary rates are available for you if you have a disability and an accompanying companion is admitted free of charge.
