King George V, King of the United Kingdom (1865-1936)

  • The second son of King Edward VII; his elder brother, the Duke of Clarence, died in 1892
  • Duke of York from 1892 to 1901; Prince of Wales from 1901 to 1910
  • His birthplace and childhood home was Marlborough House, London
  • In 1893 married Princess Victoria Mary (May) of Teck; their children included King Edward VIII and King George VI
  • Increased public respect for the constitutional monarchy during a period of unprecedented political upheaval, at home and overseas
  • Attended the Delhi Durbar in 1911 and toured India, the only Emperor of India to do so
  • Founded the Royal Philatelic Collection, one of the finest private collections of stamps in the world
